We are a traditional Ju-Jutsu group with our head dojo in Cheshire and with other satellite clubs in the UK. We teach a traditional range of Battlefield Ju-Jutsu techniques and related arts via friendly weekly classes and courses. Our members are made up from beginners as well as a range of people from various other martial arts who have come to train and study together.

JUJITSU: The Mother Art of All Martial Arts. The first dated mention of Jujitsu was during the period 772-481 B.C. when open-hand techniques were used during the Choon Chu era of China. In A.D. 525 Boddhidharma, a Zen buddist monk, traveled from India to China visiting the Shaolin monestary. He soon combined Chinese Kempo (Kenpo in Japanese) with Yoga breathing to form Shaolin chuan fa (Shorinji Kenpo in Japanese). As legend has it, Boddhidharma eventually developed the system further into what became Go-Shin-Jutsu-Karate (self defense art of open hand). In 230 B.C. the wrestling sport of Chikura Kurabe developed in Japan and was integrated into Jujitsu training. Approximately 2,000 years ago there is also mention of the development of wrestling and related techniques that served as the base of Jujitsu.

Ju-Jitsu later became systemised and was an art practiced by the Samurai although this was taught under a range of names, arts and styles. These arts cover many groups of techniques as well as strikes, kicks, throws, joint attacks, and a wide range of weapons etc. There were also other specialised fighting and non fighting techniques which covered areas such as swimming, castle fortification, seeing and moving at night as well as a range of healing techniques.

Ju-Jitsu can be practiced by anyone although care has to be taken with children as they have softer joints and children under 12 have a reduced syllabus to care for this as well as for class safety reasons. The varied techniques provide a wide range of options to help defend against many situations as well as help mentally and physically with everyday living. Many students comment on how a strategy, concept or technique has helped them in everyday life and Jujutsu is also about this everyday living. Other benefits of Jujutsu are an increased awareness and use of more lateral thinking in everyday life as well as the more obvious ones such as fitness, health, and self confidence.
